On behalf of the congregation at First Baptist Church (FBC), welcome to our site. I'd like to tell you a little bit about me, how I got here and what I believe God has in store for our church, and you.
Perhaps like you, I am like the Prodigal son in the parable Jesus taught about the wayward son and the loving, gracious father. Having grown up in the church, I sought the "real" meaning of life and happiness by traveling the world. It was only through God's love and grace that He called me back to Himself through difficult circumstances in Jackson Hole, WY. I decided I needed to get back to my roots and get back to church where the "nice people" were. Long story short, I began attending a church where the Bible was preached and taught each week, went to a one year Bible college in Jackson Hole, got married and headed off to L.A. for training at The Master's Seminary, where I earned a Master's of Divinity. That brings me here to Moravia, NY. Having grown up in CT and going to college in Poughkeepsie, I'm accustomed to the weather and the seasons and the "get out of my bubble" attitude of New Englanders. And being a Christian, I'm accustomed to the "keep your religion to yourself" philosophy of many in our culture. But what I'm getting accustomed to, is what God has in store for me, my family, our church and perhaps you, if you're still reading this far! You see, God called me back to Himself, not through church - where the "nice people" are - but through the power of the Holy Spirit. He made me realize that my sinful lifestyle was a barrier to having a relationship with Him, and He called me to repentance - turning away from my sin and towards His love and grace. The nice people at church were only the means which God used to draw me to Himself. And that is the primary role of Christians -- to worship and love God and to love others. When we do, God will use us for His glory and His Kingdom. And that's our desire at First Baptist Church -- to know and love God and to love others. Now, mind you, none of us are perfect. We're all sinners saved by God's grace and we still do things that disappoint God and others. But we also know, that through faith in Jesus Christ and His death and resurrection, our sins are forgiven. And we are continually growing in our faith and trust in God as we journey through life with each other. Now, that brings us to you. Perhaps you're looking for a church family in order to grow in your faith in Christ, or perhaps you're curious about God and what the Bible says or how to get to heaven. Whatever your circumstances, I welcome you to join us Sunday mornings to worship the one true God, to enjoy fellowship with each other and to continue to grow in faith and trust. Grace and peace, Dan |
